Bio in brief

country in the early 1990s because of his political and human rights activism during the 1987–90 southern uprising. He was granted political asylum in France before returning to Sri Lanka in the mid-1990s. In 2008, he migrated to Australia with his family.

Jagath has received grants from Amnesty International’s Human Rights Innovation Fund and Creative Australia, the Australian Government’s principal arts investment and advisory body. He has presented numerous solo exhibitions and participated in selected group exhibitions nationally and internationally. His work is held in institutional and private collections, including the Campbelltown City Council Art Collection, the Museum of Australian Photography, the State Library of New South Wales, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, the Western Sydney University Art Collection, and the Liverpool City Council Art Collection. He has undertaken artist and curatorial residencies with leading arts organisations, including Bundanon Art Museum, Utp, Arts House, and the Museum of History NSW. Jagath lives and works on the lands of the Gundungurra and Dharawal peoples in Western Sydney.
